Football season is here. As you plan your tailgates and other celebrations, remember the subtle dangers that come with game day excitement, such as alcohol consumption. Driving impaired is dangerous and not worth the risk of killing yourself or someone else. According to the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, one in every five fatal crashes are alcohol related and each of these deaths are completely preventable. Georgia State Troopers take saving lives seriously. If you are caught driving impaired, you will go to jail.
Careful planning can prevent alcohol related traffic deaths. If you consume alcohol during your game day celebrations, please make safety a priority and remember to:
- Make sure you designate a sober driver before the celebration begins. If you don’t have a designated driver, call a taxi, rideshare service, a friend, or a family member to help you get home safely.
- Hosts should serve lots of food, and have non-alcoholic beverage options available to guests.
- If you see someone who is about to drive impaired, try to help them make other arrangements to get home.
